Why do people still send you work emails when you are away on holiday? Why does the work keep on coming in? Well, life goes on, that's why.
I have developed a method of reducing the stress from this flood, which is occasionally to look at incoming emails whilst I am away, particularly if it is for more than a week. It is often impossible because it is dependent on internet access, but it helps to know what timebombs are ticking away in the inbox. I find this far more relaxing than ignorance. Some people wouldn't, but I do. However, I do not expect myself to respond until I am back at work and nor should anyone else.

Nobody should be without a Blackberry Tim, even if it's only for defusing potential bombs. I can't survive without BBC travel updates on the A55 holdups whilst enjoying myself in sunnier climes! The Brittannia Bridge closed due to high winds and inclement weather in August never ceases to amuse as I gently slurp on mojitos by the score!
ReplyDeleteI have received a couple of other comments which I have decided not to post here. The basic thrust is that the writer is trying to tell me that I would be more relaxed if I did not open emails when I am on holiday. This may be true for him, but not for me. As I said in the blog, I like to know what is waiting in the wings. I do know myself well enough to know that.
